Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Description and Operation
Idle Valve:
PURPOSE
The idle control valve regulates the amount of air which is allowed to bypass the throttle valve.
OPERATION
The idle control valve consists of two opposed windings, an armature and a rotary slide.
The Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit compares actual engine speed with control unit programmed speed. By varying the time each winding is energized, opposing forces on the armature cause it to take the correct fixed position, allowing enough bypass air to maintain proper idle.
