Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair
Removal1. Remove trim panel(s) to access pedal switches.
2. Determine if vehicle is equipped with a combination brake test/light switch (ribbed rectangular switch with four terminals) or separate switches (round switch with two terminals).
3. On models with separate brake test and brake light switches, disconnect electrical connector from switch that is not retained by nuts.
4. On models with combination brake test and brake light switch, remove retaining strap, then disconnect switch electrical connectors.
5. On all models, depress and block brake pedal down.
6. Pull switch plunger and self adjusting sleeve completely forward.
7. Press in retainer tabs and pull switch from bracket.
Installation
1. Ensure brake pedal is depressed and blocked down.
2. Pull out switch plunger and self adjusting sleeve to limit of travel.
3. Position switch into bracket and press in until locking tabs engage.
4. Release pedal block and allow pedal to slowly return to rest position and adjust switch.
5. On models with combination brake test/light switch, install connector and secure connector and wiring to switch with suitable tie wrap.
6. On models with separate brake test and brake light switches, connect connector to switch.
7. Install trim panels.
