Interior Lights (IB/ZVM II)

Interior Lights (IB/ZVM II):

Notes:

These instructions apply when a central locking module II (E36 system) is installed in the 5 Series, E34, as of model year 1992.

Refer to description of Central Locking Module II (ZVM II).

In this system, the ZV motor drive is uncoupled internally from the locking linkage after setting the vehicle in arrest mode.

If a ZKE general module is installed, carry out troubleshooting on the interior lights in accordance with ZKE Interior Lights (IB).

Functional Description:

General:

The interior lights are controlled by the central locking module II (ZVM II).

Refer to description of the Central Locking Module II.

Operation:

The interior lights can be switched by means of the interior light switch to "permanent light", "OFF" or "automatic" (controlled by the ZVM II).

Permanent light: Ground is applied directly to the IB lamps via the interior light switch

OFF: Interior light switch prevents the lamps being switched on by the module.

Automatic: The central locking module II switches ground to the lamps via a power transistor (in the module). The ON time is influenced by the door contacts, ignition switch position, central locking system, outer door handles and time sequences.

Automatic Mode:

Switch-on conditions:

- Doors open (door contact active)
- Turn ignition switch to position 0 (terminal R OFF) when terminal 58 (parking light) was switched on for at least 2 minutes beforehand.
- Raise outside door handle (terminal R OFF)
- Signal from crash sensor

Switch-off conditions:

Immediate switch-off:
- Doors closed and switch on ignition (terminal R or 15)
- Doors closed and lock vehicle

Delayed switch-off:
- Doors open longer than 16 minutes
- When IB switched on with outside door handle, deactivation after 8 seconds
- Close doors, switch-off after 20 seconds
- When interior lights activated by terminal R OFF and terminal 58 ON, switch-off after 16 seconds

Door handle contact:

The door handle contact is only installed in conjunction with the optional extra door lock heating. In addition, the function "interior light via door handle contact" can be suppressed by coding (country-specific). *D* Test procedure indicates whether the door handle contact has an influence on the interior lights.

Repeat lockout:

The interior lights can only be switched on three times within 16 minutes by way of the outer door handle. Further switch-on operations are ignored. The lockout is reset by opening and closing the driver's door.
