ABS Light: Service and Repair

If the control unit detects a defect in the wiring harness or system electronics, the monitoring circuit will switch off the ABS, which assures normal use of the brake system during an ABS malfunction. The ABS indicator lamp will then go On to notify the driver of a system malfunction.

The ABS system will not resume standby mode until the related malfunction is corrected and the ABS trouble code memory is cleared.

If an intermittent fault code is stored in memory, the warning lamp may remain on until the battery is temporarily disconnected. The battery should not be disconnected until the fault codes are read with a special BMW diagnostic tool (or equivalent).

NOTE: If the ABS warning Lamp remains on then a fault is indicated. When the fault has been repaired, the lamp will go out. There is NO procedure for turning the lamp off unless the problem has been repaired.
