SUBJECT:
IHKR Fault Code "34" and "61": Mixing Control Wheel/Mixing Flap

MODELS:
1994 MY E34
1995 MY E36

Situation:
Fault Codes 34 and/or 61 discovered in IHKR control module during diagnosis or a "Brief Test" IHKR system functions normally.

Cause:
The center vent stratification or temperature "mixing" flap was changed (phased in on 3/94 E34 production, 8/94 E36 production) from electronic stepper motor control, to a mechanical bowden cable system. The control module software logs faults 34 and/or 61, since it cannot access the missing electronic control wheel or mixing flap stepper motor.

Solution:
These faults can be ignored on the affected vehicles. The IHKR System operates correctly on all functions and is unaffected. Software in the control module will be changed to prevent these erroneous faults in future vehicle production.
