Crash Control Module: Description and Operation

Crash and Alarm Sensor (CAG):

Functional Description:

General Block Diagram:

The crash and alarm sensor is installed as of 9/87 in E32 and as of 1/89 in E34 (only in conjunction with DWA). It is installed in the front power distribution box on the right-hand side next to the lamp control module. The CAG can be activated in two different ways:

Alarm:

When the antitheft system is active (ground signal from DWA), the crash and alarm control unit triggers a visual signal for a period of approx. 5 minutes. The hazard warning system is switched on (not CH and Denmark version). It is not possible to switch the system oft by way of the hazard warning switch during this period of time.

Additionally in ECE versions (not FRG, CH, Denmark versions) and USA versions, the lamp control module is activated in a push-pull cycle with respect to the flasher pulses. In the ECE versions, this results in the low beam lights flashing and in the USA versions the high beam lights flashing. The alarm is terminated by deactivation of the antitheft system.

Crash:

The crash and alarm control unit switches on the hazard warning system in the event of a crash. It can be switched off by operating the hazard warning switch
twice.
