Description of On-Board Diagnostic System
Notes on the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:In contrast to the previous DWA II system, the DWA III now features a defect code memory. As already familiar from other diagnostic systems, a stored defect code is followed by the troubleshooting procedure. The alarm timer is a further new feature. It can be used to determine the time of the last alarm. The time at which this alarm occurred can stretch back by a maximum of 135 days. If in the meantime, the battery was disconnected or the period of 135 days has elapsed, the timer begins to start counting anew from this point in time. The alarm cause counter also a feature of the DWA II system, is retained. If the defect code memory of the DWA Ill is cleared, the causes of the alarm and the alarm timer are also cleared. Therefore, if necessary, print out these lists before clearing the defect code memory.
In addition to the series designation of the diagnosed vehicle, an indication as to whether the vehicle is equipped with/without inclination monitor interior protection is also provided on the ID page.

Important!
When the defect code memory is cleared, the alarm timer and the alarm cause counter are also cleared! If screen copies of these lists are required, they must be made before clearing the defect code memory.
