Trouble Code 22 (Oil Sump Temperature Sensor)
OIL SUMP TEMPERATURE SENSOR
Explanation
For this defect code, the control unit can differentiate between three different types of defect:
a) Break or short to positive (--> Minimum temperature)
b) Short to ground (--> Maximum temperature)
c) Transmission temperature too high (greater than 325°F [165°C])
Effect of Defect
a), b) A substitute value of 212°F (100°C) is used.
c) The transmission oil has overheated or aged prematurely. It is recommended to change the transmission oil.
Possible cause
a), b) Wire from control unit Pin 17 and 22 to oil sump temperature sensor defective, or oil sump temperature sensor (soldered in wire harness of gearshift unit) defective.
c) Transmission overloaded.
Troubleshooting
Perform status monitoring. Compare displayed transmission oil temperature to actual temperature. A temperature of 212°F (100°C) indicates the use of the substitute value.
