SUBJECT:
Damage to Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals

MODELS:
325i, 328i

Situation:
In the course of performing transmission repairs on E36 cars with M50 or M52 engines, and equipped with ASC + T, it is absolutely imperative that the throttle body be removed to prevent the possibility of the throttle body contacting the master cylinder reservoir when the transmission is lowered. This precaution is clearly stated in the repair procedures for both manual and automatic transmissions.

If the throttle body is not removed, and the reservoir is contacted, damage to the seals between the reservoir and the master cylinder can occur. The damage may not be readily apparent, and could lead to loss of brake fluid after the car is returned to the customer.

Warranty Status: Information only.
