SUBJECT:
Water Entry into Driver's Side Footwell
MODELS:
E36
Situation:
Some E36's built before 3/94 may experience a problem with water in the driver's footwell area. Another symptom may be corrosion on connectors X13 and X14.
This problem is caused by water runoff from the cowl area leaking through a seam in the hood seal mounting flange and running under the engine compartment insulation and into the passenger compartment along the wiring harness.
Vehicles produced beginning in 3/94 have the seam sealed in production.
Correction:
In case of complaint lift the hood seal off its mounting flange just inboard of the left gas strut for the hood. If there is a gap in the mounting flange, it should be wiped clean and sealed with a piece of sealing tape, part number 51 71 1 867 868, and the hood seal re-installed.
Warranty Status:
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Car limited Warranty.
