SUBJECT:
BMW CD Changer Installation

MODELS:
E34 525i Touring

We have received a few complaints about difficulties installing the CD Changer into E34 Touring vehicles.

Situation 1:
On some installations, the inside of the interior "D" pillar trim cover will contact the upper corner of the CD Changer unit when the cover is closed.

Correction:

In these rare instances, it may be desirable to remove the padding on the bottom support mounting bracket, and enlarge the holes on the front and rear CD Changer mounting brackets. Refer to the illustration. Note that the holes should be elongated toward the inner quarter panel of the vehicle. This will allow the CD Changer unit to be fastened away from the trim panel and avoid any contact with the cover.

Situation 2:
On a few early production vehicles, the required brackets and hardware for mounting the CD Changer in an E34 Touring was provided with the vehicle. This is no longer the case.

Correction:

Brackets and hardware for installation of the CD Changer into E34 Touring vehicles must be ordered separately, along with the CD Changer kit. Refer to the illustration. Part numbers are listed below for reference.
