Convertible Top Motor: Service and Repair
REPLACING ELECTRIC TOP DRIVE:- Remove trunk lid.
- Turn ignition key to "O" position.
- Disengage clips (1) and retainer (2).
- Disconnect cable and remove trunk trim panel.
- Remove control unit.
- Disconnect plugs.
Black plug - microswitch S1
White plug - microswitch S2
Black plug - power supply
- Disengage top storage box lid drive and unlock top storage box lid.
- Disengage top drive.
Top Closed:
- Unlock top on cowl panel and lift at front end.
- Position top tensioning bow upright and open top storage box lid.
Top Opened:
- Open top storage box lid and lift top out of top storage box.
- Position top tensioning bow upright.
NOTE:
- If top cannot be lifted out of top storage box, engage top drive and run top out of storage box electrically.
- - If electric operation is not possible, press top in storage box completely and press out push rod (2) firmly. Check top adjustment.
- Open top storage box lid and re-engage top storage box lid motor.
- Unscrew screws and take off cover.
Installation:
- Lock screws with Loctite No 270.
- Tightening torque = 10 Nm (7 ft lbs).
- Unscrew screws (1 and 2).
- Remove linkage from above.
Installation:
- Lock screws with Loctite No. 270.
- Connect plugs for microswitches S1 and S2.
- Adjust top drive.
- Unscrew screw and lift out drive lever from above.
Installation:
- Drive lever can be inserted only in one position (splined shaft asymmetric).
- Keep trying In different positions until drive lever can be inserted easily.
- Lock screw with Loctite No. 270.
- Tightening torque = 5 Nm (3.5 ft. lbs.).
- Unscrew screw with Special Tool 54 3 410 and take off trailing lever.
Installation:
- Lock screw with Loctite No. 270.
- Tightening torque = 5 Nm (3.5 ft. lbs.).
- Lubricate surface between drive lever and trailing lever lightly with Polylub GLY 8O1.
- Hold drive tight in trunk and unscrew screws (3).
Installation:
- Lock screws with Loctite No. 270.
- Tightening torque = 5 Nm (3.5 ft. lbs.).
