1263 - Purge Valve
Engine Management:
Engine Management:
1. With the engine at normal operating temperature disconnect the purge valve connector and connect a voltmeter between terminals 1 and 2 of the female side of the connector.
2. Start the engine and run at 1800 rpm for 60 seconds.
^ If the voltmeter cycles between battery and 0 volts, replace the purge valve.
^ If the voltmeter reads 0 volts continuously, go to step 3.
^ If the voltmeter reads battery voltage continuously, check or repair brown wire from terminal 2 of purge valve to terminal 5 of Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit for a short to ground. If a short to ground is not present, the DME control unit is defective.
3. With the ignition switch "OFF", disconnect the DME control unit connector.
4. Connect a fused jumper between terminal 5 of the harness connector and ground.
5. Connect a fused jumper between terminal 36 of the harness connector and ground.
6. Turn the ignition switch to the "Run" position, and measure the voltage at the purge valve connector.
^ If the voltmeter reads battery voltage, remove the fused jumpers. The DME control unit is defective.
^ If battery voltage is not present, remove the fused jumpers and check the wires for opens and the DME main relay for proper operation. Repair or replace as necessary.
