Instrument Cluster

3 Series (E36)

Situation:
The Instrument Cluster in 3 Series (E36) has undergone continuous technical improvements. These improvements are to the software (as of version 17 and later) and to the hardware (substantially improved acoustic transmitter).

Vehicles produced since July 1992 are equipped with Instrument Clusters which incorporate the improved acoustic transmitter (identified by blue base plate on the Instrument Cluster). If a failure of the acoustic transmitter is encountered in this Instrument Cluster, the relay should not be sprayed with cleaner as per S.I. 62 04 92 (3539); in this case, replace the Instrument Cluster.

Information:
If Instrument Cluster replacement should prove necessary for any reason, it should only be replaced with an Instrument Cluster with software of equal or later version (at least version 17), P/N 62 11 8 357 779.
