Correction and Procedure
Correction:With the engine turned off, check the clearance between the hose and the edge of the intake manifold. In most cases, the hose will be at least 5 mm from the manifold. A 5 mm clearance is sufficient, and requires no adjustment or further action. Refer to the illustration for hose location and checking procedure.
If the clearance between the hose and the intake manifold is less than 5 mm, perform the following corrective action:
Procedure:
Note: Before proceeding with the corrective action, make sure the vehicle has cooled down. Do not attempt this repair on a recently operated vehicle. Observe all safety precautions while working with automotive coolant systems. Safety glasses and gloves are recommended.
1. Remove the radiator cap.
2. Remove the tie-wrap around the heater hoses, if present (refer to illustration).
3. Loosen the upper hose clamp on the affected hose just enough to allow the hose to be twisted.
4. Adjust the hose by twisting until at least 5 mm of clearance exists between the hose and the intake manifold at the point closest to the hose.
5. Tighten the hose clamp and reinstall the radiator cap.
