Sunroof Wind Deflector Rattles

MODELS: E36

Situation:
The sunroof wind deflector on E36s built prior to 6/93 may rattle when the sunroof is in the closed or tilted positions. This problem was corrected on vehicles produced 6/93 and later. Vehicles with the updates can be identified by a small rubber buffer in the center of the sunroof frame, which contacts the wind deflector when it is in the down position.

Correction:





In cases of customer complaint, install update kit, part number 54 12 8 186 798. The buffer strip (1) should be installed on the frame just in front of the opening trim so that the deflector rests on it when depressed. Replace both levers (2) and retaining clips 3.
