SUBJECT: IHKR Blower Housing Makes Contact with Wiper Linkage

MODELS: 1992 325i (E36)


Situation: At blower speed 3 or 4, the linkage of the windshield wiper system may touch the upper blower housing cover. This could result in damage to the fan wheels.





Correction: Install a clip (P/N 51 13 1 872 146) on the blower housing at the position indicated in the diagram below.


Vehicles
Affected: Vehicles produced after July 1991 have this additional clip installed and are therefore not affected.

Vehicles produced through 06/91 should have this clip installed. All vehicles in stock should be checked for production date, a red paint dot (see Step 4 illustration) and repaired if affected.





1. Pull off rubber seal and pry off grill.

When installing, make sure grill clips are secure.





Fasten grill to seal at small arrows using instant adhesive.





2. Remove screws from wiring harness duct.





3. Remove screws of passenger side retention plate and remove plate.





4. Remove screw on driver's side and pull out air collection box from above.





5. Install clip (P/N 51 13 1 872 146) as per diagram below.


6. Install removed parts in reverse order.


Important
Note: All vehicles inspected and/or repaired should be marked with a dot of white paint on the wiring harness duct, at a point just above the engine oil filler cap, and easily visible from the front of the engine compartment.
