SUBJECT: Right or Left Front Turn Signal Assembly Comes Loose from Mounted Position

MODEL: E36 (before 9/91 production)

Situation: A complaint of "front turn signal assembly loose" may be encountered on E36 vehicles produced prior to 9/91.

Cause: Due to manufacturing tolerances there may be insufficient tension on the retaining clip for the turn signal assembly. A revised turn signal assembly is now in production (as of 9/91) which features a double locking hook on the retaining clip as well as a different, more flexible material composition.

Correction: If a complaint is experienced with vehicles in the production range before 9/91 proceed as follows:

1. Remove turn signal assembly (both assemblies if both are loose).

2. Apply silicone non-hardening adhesive/gasket maker such as Permatex Form A Gasket - Part # 6B (item # 80627). See illustration for application areas.
