Sunroof Rattles or Jams

MODELS:
325i E36

Situation:
Some 325i E36s produced from September 91 through mid-December 91 may encounter a complaint of the sunroof panel rattling, or that the sunroof jams in the partially open position.

Complaints of this nature may be caused by a broken plastic bushing where the lifting shoes connect to the lift rails. The bushings come as part of the lifting shoes, part numbers 54 12 8 119 747/748.

The Repair Manual does not cover replacement of these parts, so the following instructions can be used as a guide.





Procedure:
- Remove sunroof lid as per Repair Manual.






- Remove the plastic retaining clips from the cross bar pivot, and disconnect from drip rail arms.






- Using hand crank from tool kit, crank mechanism forward until lift rail front slides align with opening and remove.






- Crank mechanism forward until the lift shoes align with the opening, unhook from cable and remove.


- Replace the lift shoe. Reassemble in reverse order.
