Adjusting Drive

ADJUSTING ELECTRIC TOP STORAGE BOX LID DRIVE:

- Turn ignition key to "0" position.
- Raise trunk lid.
- Loosen clip (1) and lower trunk trim panel.




- Disconnect plug (1).




- Connect plug (1) on test box 61 1 459 with help of adapter 61 4 450.
- Don't connect control unit!
- Connect microswitch test box 61 1 440 on test box.

Red plug B+ or pin 19
Black plug ground
Blue plug pin 20
Yellow plug pin 4 (microswitch S4)
Green plug pin 13 (microswitch S3)

- Turn ignition key to "R" position.




- Disengage top storage box lid drive and unlock top storage box lid.




- Disengage top drive.




- Take microswitch test box out of trunk and shut trunk lid.

Top Closed:
- Unlock top on cowl panel and lift at front end.
- Position top tensioning bow upright and open top storage box lid.

Top Opened:
- Open top storage box lid and lift top out of storage box.
- Position top tensioning bow upright.




NOTE:
- If top cannot be lifted out of top storage box, engage top drive and run top out of storage box electrically.
- If electric operation is not possible, press top In storage box completely and press out push rod (2) firmly.
- Check top adjustment.




- Disengage and pull out retainer from above.




- Pull linkage off ball head.




- Turn drive lever clockwise until top storage box lid locks are locked.
- Yellow LED must go out; if necessary, adjust cables longer uniformly until LED goes out (switch point S4).




- Turn drive lever counterclockwise until green LED just goes out (switch point S3).
- Position = 5° after TDC (in clockwise direction).




- Adjust length of lid linkage by turning bail socket until linkage can be connected on ball head without tension.
- Lock ball socket on lid linkage with Loctite. No. 270.
- Mount ball head and insert retainer.




- Shut top storage box lid.
- Raise trunk lid.
- Connect control unit.
- Position top tensioning bow upright.




- Engage top and top storage box lid drives.
- Make trial operation.
- Check whether top storage box lid closes correctly and locks.
- If necessary, correct adjustment of top storage box lid locks.




NOTE:
- If top tensioning bow does not fold down while closing top, switch point of microswitch S4 will not be reached (does not switch).

Remedy:
- Adjust cables longer until switch point of microswitch "S4" is reached.
- Recheck whether top storage box lid closes correctly and locks.
- If necessary, correct adjustment of top storage box locks.




- Open top and lock top storage box lid.
- Check whether top storage box lid bulges up in area of top storage box drive.

IMPORTANT!
- Adjustment of microswitches "S3/S4" may only be changed when there is evident bulging up of top storage box lid.




- Loosen lockscrew (1).
- Turn adjusting screw (2) counterclockwise slightly.
- Tighten lockscrew (1).
- Change length of top storage box lid linkage to new switch point "S3" with top storage box lid opened.
- Position = 5° after TDC (in clockwise direction).

- Repeat these procedures until top storage box lid no longer bulges up, whereby switch point "S3" may not be In TDC.
- Afterwards check top storage box lid locking, correcting length of cables for top storage box lid locks if necessary.
