SUBJECT: Mounting of Front Axle Subframe to Body

MODELS: E36


Situation: The method and hardware used to mount the front axle subframe to the body on the E36 was changed in production concurrent with the start of production of US models. However, these changes are not reflected in the current parts catalog or repair manual.

The following procedure should be used until the next publication of the parts catalog and repair manual.

Procedure:

Whenever the front axle subframe is removed the following steps should be performed:

1. Replace the four washers (P/N 31 11 1 140 982) between the subframe and body.

2. Replace the four mounting bolts (P/N 31 11 1 140 541).

3. Coat the bolt threads and head contact surface with assembly paste (P/N 81 22 9 400 207).

4. Tighten bolts to 105 N-m.
