Replacing Expansion Valve
Removal:- Disconnect battery ground lead.
- Discharge pressure in air conditioner.
CAUTION:
Automotive refrigerant containing CFC's is hazardous to the earth's atmosphere.
To protect our environment, use an Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) approved refrigerant recovery recycling unit whenever discharging an A/C system.
- Remove lower portion of center console.
- Remove left side underdash panel.
- Open glove box.
- Unscrew bolt (1).
- Take off trim panel (2).
- Disconnect pins (1) of both retaining straps.
- Loosen nuts and remove glove box.
- Counterhold the expansion valve (4) with wrench (5).
- Disconnect lines (1) and (2).
- Insert plugs (3) in open connections immediately.
- Unscrew bolts (1, 2, 3 and 4).
- Take off cover (5).
- Take off foam rubber cover (1).
- Pull off plugs (1 and 2).
- Remove screws.
- Remove freeze protection switch, pulling temperature sensor out of the housing at the same time.
Note: Don't bend temperature sensor.
- Pull evaporator out of housing.
- Counterhold the expansion valve with a wrench.
- Disconnect both pipes.
- Insert plugs in open connections immediately.
Installation Notes:
- Straighten bent fins on evaporator with help of special comb (1).
- Install freeze protection switch only after installation of the evaporator.
- Replace all seals for A/C line connections.
- Recharge and check air conditioner for leaks after installation.
