Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation

The cylinder identification sensor monitors the position of number four piston position. The sensor consists of a permanent magnet, iron core and a coil of wire. A magnetic field that increases and decreases is produced as the exhaust cam locator pin passes the sensor field. Normally the engine works with half-sequential injection. If the sensor is defective or the signal is missing, the control unit will operate all the injectors at the same time.
