SUBJECT: SRS Reset/Recall Tool
MODELS: E23, E24, E30
Situation: A special tool has been developed to reset and recall faults in cars which Siemens SRS Control Units. Siemens SRS Control Units are easily identifiable as the SRS light will flash when the ignition is in the "RUN" position and a fault is present versus the light being on continuously under these same conditions with a CIPRO SRS Control Unit.
A copy of the operating instructions has been printed. The separate sheet should be kept with the tool.
OPERATING PROCEDURES
Special Tool 62 1 290
Flash Code Recall
Use this procedure to activate the flash codes.
Refer to the Repair Manual (Group 32) for the flash code reference table and diagnostic procedures.
- Turn ignition OFF.
- Set the rocker switches to "Memory Recall" and "Pin 6".
- Screw the tool onto the diagnostic plug. If the vehicle has a 15 pin diagnostic plug also use special tool 61 2 060 - adapter.
- The GREEN LED must light up when the tool is screwed into place. If the RED LED lights immediately, the tool must be removed and reconnected until the GREEN LED lights up.
- Switch the ignition to the RUN position. This must be done in one quick motion.
- The GREEN LED should go out and the RED LED should light. If the GREEN LED stays on immediately after the ignition is switched to RUN, the procedure must be repeated by turning the ignition OFF and back to RUN. After a 15 second delay the RED LED will go out and the GREEN LED will light. The flash code sequence will be displayed on the SRS warning lamp in the car. The LEDs on the tool will not flash.
Flash Code Reset
Use this procedure to cancel all faults after repairs have been made.
- Turn ignition "OFF".
- Set rocker switches to "Memory Reset" and "Pin 6".
- Screw the tool onto the diagnostic connector. Special tool 61 2 060 must also be used on vehicles with 15 pin diagnostic connectors.
- The GREEN LED must light up when the tool is screwed into place. If the RED LED lights immediately, the tool must be removed and reconnected until the GREEN LED lights up.
- Switch the ignition to the RUN position. This must be done in one quick motion. THE GREEN LED should go out and the RED LED should light. If the GREEN LED stays on immediately after the ignition is switched to RUN, the procedure must be repeated by turning the ignition OFF and back to RUN.
- The RED LED will now illuminate and the SRS light will remain ON.
- After approximately 15 seconds the RED LED will go out and the GREEN LED will illuminate. This indicates that the reset procedure is completed.
- Turn ignition OFF.
- To verify, disconnect the recall/reset tool and turn the igntion to "RUN". The SRS light should go OUT after approximately 3 seconds.
