Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection

Spark Plug Wire Location:









1. Carefully remove the ignition wire assembly from the coil pack. Check for cracks, or burns on the ignition wire assembly.

NOTE: All ignition wires are identified by reference numbers printed near the coil pack.


CAUTION: Do not attempt to disconnect the ignition wires from the 90° suppression connectors at the coil pack or the spark plug connectors.

Ignition Wire Test:





2. Remove the spark plug connectors spark plug connectors.
3. With an ohmmeter test the resistance of each ignition wire including connectors.

^ Resistance of each ignition wire including the 90° suppression connector and suppression spark plug connector should be 6 K ohms (±20%).

^ If the readings are not within specifications replace as necessary.
NOTE: Check with your parts supplier on the availability of individual wires or sets. If BMW special tools are not available do not attempt to replace spark plug connectors or 90°connectors.
