SUBJECT: BMW Remote Control Vehicle Security System

MODELS: E30 - All Equipped with BMW Remote Control Vehicle Security System (P/N 88 88 1 600 203)

Complaint: Alarm system arms, but vehicle does not lock.

General
Information: As noted in the Owner's Manual for the above-named system, the TX Button on the transmitter should not be pressed until the interior light has gone out (interior, light switches in "timed operation" position).

Depending on the version of interior light control installed in the vehicle, the interior light shut-off can be delayed (6-8 seconds) on entry, or on both entry and exit.

Note: E30/M20 and M3 vehicles produced after mid-November, 1990 have both entry and exit delay. E30/M42 vehicles have no delay.

If exit shut-off delay is present, the interior lights will remain on for 6-8 seconds after exiting the vehicle.

The customer should wait until the interior lights have gone out before pressing the TX Button on the transmitter.

Please note that this is normal operation of the interior light time unit, and of the alarm module, and consider this when encountering the above mentioned complaint.

Replacement of the alarm module or of the interior light control unit will not after this normal operating sequence.

Please alert your Sales and Parts personnel to these operating modes.
