Code 8 (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)
Defect Code 8:•D•1 Defect code memory: 8 Fault lamp:
Explanation: Only applies to US models. This defect code is stored when shorts occur at the fault lamp or on its supply wire.
Effects of defect:
- The fault lamp does not light in the case of a short to positive when defect codes are stored.
- The fault lamp lights continuously in the case of a short to ground.
Troubleshooting: Normally, the fault lamp is activated by the control unit (ground signal at Pin 8) when an emission-related defect code is stored in the defect code memory.
Fault lamp test: Simulate defect, e.g. disconnect plug from air flow meter and start engine. The fault lamp must then light when the control unit detects the defect code 41 air flow meter.
- Does the control unit send the ground signal?
- Are wires and fault lamp OK.?
