Convertible Top Repair Hints

MODEL:
3251 Convertible

Situation:
Repair hints for convertibles.

1. Condition:





Seal (in the top) leaking across top of windshield.



Procedure:
Loosen seal and remove old glue with cleaner, BMW P/N 81 22 9 407 527. Roughen the surface of the seal slightly with sandpaper, and re-glue with BMW P/N 81 22 9 407 533.

2. Condition:
Water leaking under seals at top corners of A pillars.



Procedure:
Replace corner seals, and roughen the surface of the seal slightly (where glued) with sandpaper to assure a good bond. Use BMW P/N 81 22 9 407 533 glue, taking care to glue edges (arrows) firmly in place.



3. Condition:

Top is soiled from rubbing on gas tube rod for stowage compartment lid (1), or top material is abraded from rubbing against ends of screws for trunk hinges (2).



Procedure:

(1) A protective cover is available for the gas tube, BMW P/N 51 25 1 947 359.

(2) Remove the self-tapping screws one at a time, file off sharp edges, and re-install with an additional flat washer under the head. Touch up the end of the screw with the appropriate color paint.
