Accelerator Pedal: Adjustments

Accelerator Cable Adjustment:

1. Pull lightly at the end of the cable and check the amount of freeplay at point A.

^ There should be approx. 0.04 - 0.08 in. clearance when the accelerator pedal is in the rest position. If the adjustment is incorrect loosen the lock nut and turn the plastic adjusting nut to obtain the correct distance at A.

Throttle Adjustment Locations:

2. Depress the accelerator pedal until it comes into contact with the pedal stop on the floor.

NOTE: For models with A/T transmission be sure to depress the accelerator pedal beyond the kickdown point to the stop position.

^ There should be approx. 0.020 in. clearance between the throttle lever and the full throttle stop point B.

Accelerator Pedal Stop:

^ If the clearance is incorrect loosen the pedal stop lock nut and adjust the stop to obtain the correct distance at point B.

NOTE: Rotating the pedal stop 1 1/2 turns will change the clearance at the full-throttle stop by 0.020 in.. Disconnect the electrical connector at the Kickdown switch before rotating (A/T only).

3. Recheck the adjustments after adjusting the accelerator pedal stop or kickdown switch. Refer to TRANSMISSIONS CLUTCHES DIFFERENTIALS AXLES AND DRIVESHAFTS for adjustment of the transmission accelerator cable (A/T only).
