Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Testing and Inspection
Injection Electronics (Motronic Control Unit). Wiring Diagram:
1. With the ignition switch OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the DME control unit (control unit is located in the glove box area) see COMPONENT LOCATIONS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the run (ON) position and connect a fused jumper between terminal 15 of the DME control unit connector and ground.
^ The "CHECK ENGINE" light must illuminate If not check fuse 10 which is located at the fuse box, replace as necessary
3. If fuse 10 is OK, check power
supply to "Check Engine" light bulb = Battery voltage If not check for open or short
4. If OK, turn the ignition OFF, remove the fused jumper and reconnect the DME control unit connector.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the run (ON) position and check for ground at the brown wire of the "Check Engine" light.
^ If OK, replace "Check Engine" light bulb, or repair or replace instrument cluster circuit board.
^ If ground is not present check for open between bulb and terminal 15 of DME control unit connector
^ If OK, the DME control unit is defective
