SUBJECT: Fuel Filler Door Emergency Release

MODELS: E36 (325i)


Situatlon: E36 cars built prior to 6/91 production do not have the fuel filler door emergency release mechanism installed. Operation of this release is detailed on page 94 of the Owner's Manual.

Action: All affected vehicles should have the release mechanism retro-fitted during their next regular visit to the workshop.

Procedure: Remove the tray in the right rear corner of the trunk.





- Partially remove the trim from the right side wall.

- Check for presence of cable hole in the trim. If not present, drill a 5 mm hole as per the dimension illustrated.

A = 75 mm B = 180 mm





- Remove the filler door locking motor, install cable over the locking pin, and reinstall motor.

- Insert cable with knob through the hole in the trim and connect the two cables.

- Reinstall trim panel and tray.
