Differential Housing Final Drive Covers

MODELS:
750iL, M6, M5

Situation:
The sealing ability of the final drive (side cover) cover radial seal has been improved. The improvement is accomplished by a simple repositioning of the final drive covers.





The installed position of the lubrication hole is no longer at the top (12 o'clock) as indicated in the Repair Manual but is rotated 45, or one bolt hole per the sketch in this bulletin. This can be confirmed visibly by the location of the half cavity casting on each final drive cover.

The final drive cover position has been changed in production since 12/88 and the new position should be used whenever the differential side covers are removed and reinstalled.

As mentioned in S.I. 33 01 88 (1621) the attaching bolts should be cleaned and sealed with Loctite 270 (green) P/N 81 22 9 407 144.
