SUBJECT:
Insufficient Heating or Cooling, or Odors from Heating/Air Conditioning Unit

MODELS:
All

Situation:
Complaints of insufficient heating on some cars has been traced back to loose items in the car blocking the air nozzles under the front seats. On 7 Series (E32) vehicles, these nozzles are used as air returns when the controls are set for recirculation. The airflow can be restricted by, or pickup odors from the item blocking the air nozzle in both heating and air conditioning settings.

The air coming from the heater outlets can be well over 100~F when set on maximum heat, and this hot air can cause very unpleasant odors if restricted, as well as any odors that may be caused by the item blocking the outlet when it is heated.

Correction:
When checking a complaint of odors or insufficient heating or cooling, check first for items blocking the underseat air nozzles.
