This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. 65 12 88 (1757) dated November 1988. It corrects the P/N for the blank plug on the Attachment.

Please remove and discard S.I. 65 12 88 (1757) dated November 1988 from your S.I. binder.

CD (Compact Disc) Ready Radios - Speaker Connections

Situation:
The CD-Ready Radios are equipped with 4 individual output channels. With this feature the dashboard fader is no longer needed.

To connect these radios to the speaker harnesses the adapter harnesses listed below are required. A blank plug is available to cover the hole in the dashboard previously used for the fader.





Parts Information:

Use the diagram for proper connections of these adapter harnesses to the radio and speaker harness.

CD (COMPACT DISC) READY RADIO - SPEAKER CONNECTIONS

1987 Model Year and Earlier Vehicles (flat blade fader connector)





Parts Required:

Connection Procedure:





1) Remove and discard fader control.

2) Insert blank plug into dashboard.

3) Insert each of the four flat blade pins on the adapter harness into the fader connector, matching the appropriate wire colors together.

NOTE:
When inserting these pins into the fader connector make sure the locking tab catches onto the connector housing.





4) Connect the two female plugs on the adapter harness to the two speaker harnesses as shown.





5) Plug the four speaker connections on the adapter harness to the radio as shown.

1988 Model Year and Later Vehicles (round pin fader connector)





Parts Required:

Connection Procedure





1) Remove and discard fader control.

2) Insert blank plug into dashboard.

3) Connect adapter harness to fader connection.

4) Plug the rear speaker leads into the rear speaker connections on the radio.

5) Plug the front speaker leads into the radio as follows:

Lead with yellow wires - Left front speaker

Lead with blue wires - Right front speaker
