SUBJECT: Repairing Power Antennas
MODELS: All (from 1984)
Situation: The control unit (printed circuit board) for the power antenna is now available as a replacement part. (P/N 65 22 1 379 527) The procedures in this bulletin give you a quick method of determining if the control unit is defective and how to repair it.
Repair
Procedures: 1) Check the wiring at the antenna for proper connections: Red Wire - 12 V constant White wire - 12 V with radio switched ON Black wire - ground
2) Remove antenna from vehicle.
Note: Use Special Tool 88 88 6 652 000 to remove the antenna.
3) Remove antenna housing cover using Special Tool 88 88 6 652 100.
Note: After lifting off the cover, make sure that none of the 3 rubber cushions have fallen into the drive mechanism.
4) Pull out the control unit and disconnect the red and green wires going to the motor.
5) a. Connect the red wire to 12V positive and the green wire to 12V negative. The mast should now extend.
b. Reverse the wires, connecting the green wire to 12V positive and the red wire to 12V negative. The mast should now retract.
Replace the control unit if the antenna operates properly per steps 5a and 5b.
6) When installing the antenna housing cover, replace the 3 rubber cushions with new ones supplied with the control unit.
Warranty
Status: Replacement of complete antenna will no longer be accepted if the control unit only is found to be defective.
Use the operation numbers when checking and/or repairing the antenna control unit.
