Automatic Transmission

The automatic transmission has 4 gears and converter lock-up for good economy. It is available in a version with separate electro-hydraulic control for engine and gearbox, to provide an optimized driveline concept, that is to say with the engine included in the control loop and Improved shift smoothness and fuel economy. Shift characteristics are accurately achieved and maintained. Shifts occur according to road speed and engine power. If the electronics should fail, an emergency program ensures that the car can still be driven in 3rd gear.

The driver can choose between three driving programs, for optimum economy, enthusiastic driving (making full use of all the available power or direct gear selection. This last program retains any selected gear, so that no unexpected gear shifts can take place; this can be beneficial when driving in winter conditions or in mountain regions.

The selected gear and driving program appear in a display zone on the instrument panel.

The electronics Include provision for system diagnosis. Faults can be read out at the diagnosis -plug in the engine compartment, to speed up troubleshooting.
