SUBJECT:
A/C High Pressure Line
MODELS:
All
Situation:
The procedure below should be followed, whenever it becomes necessary to renew the A/C high pressure line (receiver-drier to evaporator), on a vehicle which is equipped with an integrated A/C line-fuel cooler assembly.
Continuing product evaluation has determined that due to the flexibility of the Motronic System, the fuel line cooler is not needed. Consequently the cooler has been deleted from the parts system and is no longer installed in production.
Procedure:
1) Using safety approved methods, discharge the refrigeration system.
2) Remove fuel line cooler (Item # 1, Diagram "A").
WARNING:
Gasoline spillage and vapors!!
3) Replace existing two-piece evaporator/compressor R12 line with single R12 line (type presently used in production).
4) Remove and discard # 2 and # 7 fuel lines (see diagram "A").
WARNING:
Gasoline spillage and vapors!!
5) Cover the ends of # 4 and # 5 crossover pipes with a shop towel and blow clear with compressed air. The crossover pipes remain on the vehicle but are unused.
6) Reroute # 6 fuel line to return pipe (see Diagram "B").
Note:
In some cases it may be necessary to replace the # 6 return hose with a longer section or to trim the existing hose. Wire tie return line to prevent chafing or rubbing in the engine compartment.
7) Start the engine and thoroughly inspect for fuel leakage.
8) Evacuate and recharge the refrigeration system. Check system for leaks.
