SUBJECT:
Seat/Safety Belt Components: Non-Interchangeability
MODELS:
All
Situation:
Reports have been received concerning certain vehicles whose safety belts would not latch properly. Subsequent investigation revealed that the original front seats had been replaced by those of another vehicle as part of an interior swap.
Since safety belt suppliers sometimes implement internal design changes in production, similar-looking components may not be interchangeable.
For this reason, the buckle end of the front safety belt must not be transferred with the seat when making an interior swap. The buckle end must be removed from the original seat and installed on the replacement seat. The latch plate (male component) and buckle end (female component) of a safety belt system must always remain together.
Note:
All bolts/nuts loosened or removed during this procedure must be properly torqued according to the torque values used in the Tightening Torque Values handbook or the Technical Data microfiche.
