As the same basis coding plugs are now used in ALL E32 and E34 models, it is necessary that replacements be ordered using the program code stored in each plug.

The stored code number can be retrieved in the following manner for vehicles up to 2/89 production.

1. Depress the daily odometer reset button and hold in with the ignition turned off.

2. Turn the ignition key to "R". The code will be displayed as long as the reset button is held in. When the button is released, all readings will return to normal.

New part numbers have been established to simplify the ordering process. The coding plugs formerly ordered under PIN 62 11 1 388 048 (code specified) may be ordered from your PDC under the following part numbers:

A re-designed coding plug has been used in series production from 2/89 in all E32/E34 models. The part number is 62 11 1 390 878 (code specified). Further, a new code retrieval sequence has been introduced in these models.

1. Depress the check control button
2. Turn on ignition switch
3. Release the check control button
4. The second item displayed will be the code

Additional new part numbers have been established. The 62 11 1 390 878 (code specified) may be ordered from your PDC under the following part numbers.
