This Service Information Bulletin supersedes S.I. 62 03 86 (1229) dated August 1986. It updates the coding plug applications found on the reverse side of this bulletin.
Please remove and discard S.I. 62 03 86 (1229) dated August 1986 from your S.I. binder.
SUBJECT: Erratic Instrument Cluster Operation
MODELS: All with 2nd Generation Service Interval Indicator
Complaint: One or more of the following complaints may occur:
^ INSPECTION inscription on the Service Interval Indicator (S.I.I.) flashes.
^ Green LEDs do not go out after starting.
^ Tachometer remains at zero.
^ Economy gauge does not operate.
Repair
Procedure: 1) Check fuses in fusebox.
2) Check if coding plug is fully seated.
3) Exchange coding plug for a known good one.
4) Replace coding plug printed circuit board.
5) If problem still exists, follow normal diagnostic procedures.
For your information, coding plugs applicable to our US models are listed on the back of this S.I.
Note: The code number is ink-stamped on the small end of the coding plug.
