SUBJECT: [1][2]Auxiliary Fan Low Speed Resistor
MODELS: All
Symptom: You may receive a vehicle with one or both of these symptoms:
^ [1][2]Auxiliary fan does not operate on low speed.
^ The fuse for the [1][2]auxiliary fan is blown.
Situation: The low speed resistor is defective resulting in an open in the low speed circuit.
If the high speed circuit is activated without the low speed already running, the fuse may be blown due to the high initial current draw.
Correction: Replace the low speed resistor.
If the fan is manufactured by "BEHR" the resistor can be replaced by unscrewing its electrical connections. The part number for the "BEHR" resistor is 17 40 1 373 177.
If the fan is manufactured by "POWER MOTION/MAGNA" follow the repair procedure described below.
Repair
Procedure: ^ Remove the mounting screws.
^ Cut and discard the wire tie securing the wires to the fan housing.
^ Obtain replacement resistor P/N 64 54 1 386 265.
^ Place approx. 1" sections of shrink tubing over each section of wire.
^ Solder wires together.
^ Apply heat to shrink tubing.
^ Secure resistor to fan housing with mounting screws.
^ Secure wires to fan housing with a wire tie P/N 61 13 1 243 092.
