SUBJECT:
Fusible Plug - Receiver/Drier

Situation:
The fusible plug (arrow) on the Receiver/Drier is designed to open (blow out) if abnormal pressures or temperatures are reached in the A/C system.

Under normal conditions this should not occur as the system is protected by a high pressure cut-out switch.

It can, therefore, be assumed that in such a case the high pressure switch is defective.

Repair Procedure:
Replace the high pressure switch along with the receiver/drier if the fusible plug is found to be open.

The following item should also be checked for proper function as the system should not normally operate at these high pressures:

^ [1][2]Auxiliary Fan

^ 108~C Coolant Temperature Switch (M Series Cars Only)

^ 150~C Compressor Temperature Switch (models so equipped)

^ Operating pressures - blockage or restriction in system
