Procedure "A"
- Remove existing exhaust hanger from the rear of the transmission and discard.
- Verify that the catalyst shell is intact (not perforated) at the point where the hanger flange broke away.
- Drill 8 mm hole in heat shield as shown in Illustrations # 1 & 2.
- "Dish" flat washer (P/N 07 11 9 936 432) before installation (see Illustration # 4) to avoid deformation of the soft heat shield material.
- Attach the new exhaust hanger (P/N 18 301 318 002) to the rear of the transmission (bolts finger tight).
- Secure the new hanger (P/N 18 301 318 002) by inserting a M8 x 60 bolt (P/N 07 11 9 912 535) with the "dished" flat washer through the heat shield and thread securely into the new hanger welded nut as shown in illustration # 5.
- Using a pair of vise grip pliers, clamp both new brackets together in the center to avoid movement between the two as shown in illustration # 5.
- Remove both brackets wih vise grip pliers from the vehicle. Drill two 8 mm holes in the center of both brackets approximately 30 mm apart (see illustration # 6).
- Fasten brackets together using two M8 x 15 bolts
(P/N 07 11 9 913 612) and M8 lock nuts (P/N 07 12 9 946 400).
- Reinstall bracket assembly on vehicle and tighten all nuts and bolts. Exhaust hanger to transmission and exhaust assembly M8 nut and bolt torque specification: 22 + 2 N-m (16 + 1.0 ft.lbs.).
