Remove and Install Timing Case

REMOVING AND INSTALLING TIMING CASE




- Unscrew timing case only when engine is cold (coolant temperature max. 35°C/95°F).
- Disconnect battery ground lead.
- Unscrew plug and drain coolant.

Installation Note: Pour in coolant, bleed system.




- Disconnect radiator hose (1).
- Remove camshaft, Remove and Install Camshaft.




- Pull out cam followers and place them on the tray, Special Tool 11 3 030.

Installation Note: Install cam followers in the same positions.




- Unscrew pipe.
- Remove bolts.




- Unscrew timing case.




Installation Note:
- Replace 0-rings (2) in oil bores.
- Check 0-rings (3), replacing if necessary.
- Coat sealing surfaces with Silastic.
- Tighten bolts uniformly. Tightening torque:
7 mm 15 Nm (11 ft lb).
8 mm 20 Nm (15 ft lb).




- Measuring Cam Follower Clearance;
- Measure diameter of cam followers with a micrometer.




- Set internal calipers on the micrometer to zero with the measured cam follower diameter.
- Measure the cam follower bore diameter.
- Compare the measured cam follower clearance with the specified cam follower clearance.
Bore Diameter 37.5 + 0 - 0.016 mm (1.4764 + 0 - 0.0006 in)
Tappet bore clearance 0.025 - 0.066 mm (0.0010 - 0.0026 in)
