Montvale, NJ December 1987 Technical Dept.
SUBJECT: Cruise Control

MODELS: All 1988 (after 9/87 production)

The cruise control now has the expanded features of deceleration control and "tapping" (incremental acceleration and deceleration) functions. The components of the system look similar to previous ones but the ECU and control lever have been changed for these additional features.

Familiarize yourself with the new control lever positions as shown.
1) Set/Accelerate - pressing the lever will set the speed at which the vehicle is presently traveling. If the lever is held in this position, the vehicle will gradually accelerate until the lever is released, at which time the vehicle will maintain that speed.
2) Set/Decelerate - pulling the lever will set the speed the vehicle is presently at. Holding the lever in this position will gradually decelerate the vehicle and will set the vehicle speed when the lever is released.

Tapping function - if the lever is momentarily tapped to position 1 or 2 the vehicle set speed will increase or decrease by 0.7 mph (1 kmh).

3) Resume - pushing the lever upward will resume the vehicle to the last set speed.

4) Off - pushing the lever down will disengage the cruise control.
