Condition

Customer may report that a warning for electromechanical steering is displayed in the instrument cluster. There is no loss of steering control or functionality associated with these warnings.

Audi of America is requesting your cooperation in supplying us with technical information regarding this condition in order to ensure part replacement is necessary.

1. Verify that any of the DTCs listed below are stored in the power steering control module, J500 (44):

^ DTC 6291727 (Control unit incorrect)

^ DTC 7341570 (Engine position sender, implausible signal)

^ DTC 7341600 (Engine position sender, implausible signal)

^ DTC 7341632 (Engine position sender, implausible signal)

^ DTC 7353984 (Engine position sender, mechanical complaint)

^ DTC 2107920 (Steering torque sender 1 implausible signal)

^ DTC 2107936 (Steering torque sender 2 implausible signal)

^ DTC 1055840 (Control unit incorrect)

^ DTC 1052424 (Control unit incorrect)

^ DTC 5258756 (Mechanical steering complaint)

^ DTC 1052432 (Control unit incorrect)

^ DTC 7343407 (Power steering motor, disruption)

^ DTC 7343423 (Power steering motor, disruption)

^ DTC 7343439 (Power steering motor, disruption)

2. If the vehicle is within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, contact a TAC consultant before proceeding. Please attach the diagnostic log to the TAC ticket. Only proceed to step 3 after an approval from TAC.

3. Replace the steering gear. Refer to Repair Manual >> Chassis >> Suspension, Wheels, Steering >> 48 Steering >> Removal and Installation >> Steering Gear
