Condition

The LED daytime running light in a single headlight does not work (Figure 1). The issue must be repeatable at the workshop and one of the following DTCs must be present in the Electronic Central Electrics Module (J519) - Address 09.

^ DTC 02895 (Left LED module daytime running lights and parking, supply - Electrical fault in circuit)

^ DTC 02897 (Right LED module daytime running lights and parking, supply - Electrical fault in circuit)

Only vehicles with xenon headlights are affected.

Technical Background
The LED, or the wiring to the LED, is damaged during headlight assembly at the supplier.

Production Solution
The holding tool, which is used during the installation of the LEDs into the headlight, was improved.

Service

1. Remove the LED DRL of the affected side and inspect the connectors on and going to the control unit. If no connector issue is found, then swap the LED DRL control units between headlights to see if the issue follows the control unit.

^ If the issue follows the control unit, then replace the affected LED DRL control unit only. Refer to ELSAWeb: Repair Manual >> Electrical System >> Electrical Equipment >> 94 Exterior Lights, Switches >> Removal and Installation >> HID Headlamp, from MY 2012 >> LED Parking Lamp/Daytime Running Lamp Modules -L176-/-L177-.

^ If the issue stays with the headlight assembly, then check for bent pins and/or damaged connectors on the headlight and repair if necessary.

^ If no wiring or connector issues can be found, then replace the headlight assembly and reinstall the original control units and bulbs into the new replacement headlight assembly. Refer to ELSAWeb: Repair Manual >> Electrical System >> Electrical Equipment >> 94 Exterior Lights, Switches >> Removal and Installation >> HID Headlamp, from MY 2012 >> Headlamp Housing.

2. Adjust headlights after installing them back into the vehicle. Refer to ELSAWeb: Repair Manual-Electrical System-Electrical Equipment-94 Exterior Lights, Switches >> Diagnosis and Testing >> HID Headlamp, Adjusting.
