2.5L TFSI
Generator
Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.
Removing
- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (ND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove the ribbed belt tensioner for the generator and windshield washer fluid pump.
- Remove the screw - 2 - for the right coolant pipe.
• Ignore items - 1 , 3 -.
- Remove the screw - arrow - on the clamp.
- Remove the screws - 1 - and then remove the idler roller.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 3 -.
- Pry off the cap - 2 - and remove the nut - 1 - for the 30/B+ terminal.
- Remove the nut - 4 - and remove the clamp.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the generator.
• If the generator is stuck in its bracket, insert a 1/2 inch (19 mm) socket - 1 - on the bushing.
• Install an M8 x 45 screw into the bushing and remove the bushing from the generator by turning the screw.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Generator Overview ] Generator Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
• Because the clamping force of a tight bushing is too low despite correct torque, bushings must be loosened.
- Drive retaining bolt bushings back slightly for easier generator installation.
- Install the ribbed belt tensioner for the generator and windshield washer fluid pump.
- Install the right coolant pipe.
- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Start the engine and make sure the belt is running correctly.
