Camshaft, Measuring Radial Play

Procedure

- Removing cam follower. Refer to => [ Camshafts ] Service and Repair.

- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.

- Place Plastigage over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing.

• Plastigage must rest in center of bearing.

- Position the guide frame and tighten to 8 Nm. Refer to => [ Guide Frame Tightening Specifications
and Sequence ] Valvetrain Overview without rotating camshaft.

- Install the guide frame.

- Compare width of Plastigage with calibrated scale.

Radial clearance:

Bearing diameter 24 mm: 0.024 to 0.066 mm.

Bearing diameter 32 mm: 0.030 to 0.051 mm.
