Condition
Customer may report the license plate attachment screws do not install properly.
Technical Background
The license plate brackets are designed to be used with the appropriate length screw installed by hand with a screwdriver.
Damaged warranty parts have been returned to Audi of America with evidence of excessive torque used when installing the screw and/or excessive screw length (Figure 1).

Service
The appropriate screw length is dependent upon the cumulative thickness of the license plate plus any decorative frame placed over the license plate.
Recommended screw length as shown above.
Tip: Manually install the license plate screws using a handheld screwdriver. If the screw bottoms out, remove this screw and select a shorter screw instead of applying excessive torque. Otherwise, damage may occur to the license plate bracket screw inserts.

This damage is due to outside influence and is not covered by any Audi warranty.
